Write-UP: Do Not Starve a Starving Artist

Going through the Bloodline’s MySpace friendlist, I stopped by one friend in particular, and was checking out her photos. If you’re stuck in the 90’s still, you should know that you can leave comments on MySpace pictures.
I come across a picture of this young lady posing with Chingo Bling, only to see the following comment left below the picture:
“sorry to say that isn’t an artist.
that’s an embarrasement to Mexican americans. that’s why they are always kicking his ass. lol”
What caught my attention? Not the mere fact that this band said Chingo Bling embarrassed Mexican-Americans (America is capitalized by the way). Not even the fact that the band said everyone kick’s CB’s ass. What bothers me is the fact that this band that I’ve never heard of, says someone else is NOT an artist. What authority are you declaring? Not even the (warning: sarcasm follows) almighty Texas Talent Musicians Association (end of sarcasm) has the authority to say Chingo Bling, much less anyone else, is not an artist.
Whether you like to consider him one or not, I will tell you right now: he is. I will agree, I’m no big fan of Mr. Bling’s music. However, your jurisdiction stops there.
Prime example: I despise banda and duranguense (purposely in lowercase) music, but I will not deny those folks the right to be considered artists. That is not ignorant, it is idiotic.

I agree. I also am not a fan of MR. Bling. However he should be respected for making a name for himself by starting off selling his music at flea markets. I believe he is also the vice president of the Texas chapter of the Latin Grammy’s…. or something like that. I know he does try to help other Latin artists through various speaking functions and organizations.

As silly as his song lyrics are, I would like to say that Pedro Herrera (Chingo) is a marketing mastermind. I would like to also point out that he is probably more successful than anyone who comments on this site. I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s an embarrassment to Mexican Americans. I would say he is more of a role model for young urban Mexican Americans. An embarrassment would be Joe Lopez (mazz), or Michelle Rodriguez (Girl Fight). I don’t recall a time where Chingo was charged with DWI or for child molestation! Anyone who takes his lyrics seriously and believes that this CHARACTER is real must be an idiot! Like it or not this is his brand of music he is the hip hop equivalent to Cletus T. Judd or Wally Gonzales. The real embarrassment is the haters who like to hold their own Raza down. Stop sipping the hater-aid!!!!!!

you know what hand me that haterade, i’ll drink the whole thing. chingo sucks chingos and he’ll stay underground. marketing mastermind i don’t think so. he probably throws his cds out at his “concerts” and calls that profit. enough of this, he sucks.

when your done with your hater-aide, you can finsh the rest of youre hater-tots too. DO SOME RESEARCH. underground is not a bad thing, “tbl” coulb be considered underground. all it means is that your ‘independant’ of a major label. he makes 100% of his cd and live apperance charges ($12-$25 per cd & 2500 per texas show…..not cheap). hes doin more things than most other artists his ctegory and age. plugs and spots on MUN2, shout outs on SNL, latino hit street, B.E.T’s ‘beef’. numerous mags, the list goes on.
now sure enough, youll come back with more “i hate chingo” comments. I admire chingo from a buisiness stand point but being a musician, I dont really care for his brand of music. I stand by my desicion saying he is a “marketing mastermind”. he was able to sale (to the public, not a label) an illusion of a capone like tamale sales man, with his own brand of shoes ,toys and other various novelty items. not to mention he has been able to maintain a more than healthy income on this act scince 2000. ps I will buy you (lowraider) an “AIR CHINGO” shirt for x-mass or do you perfer an “those who cannot do……hate” shirt?????
