Waste of Stage Space?

While sitting in the middle of a huge dark room and downing a few Tecates, I realised that I could not justify any reason for having dancers on stage.  Only one thought popped in my head:  What a waste of space and money.

You might think I am out of line.

Rockin’ body, hair all over the place, visual signs of menstruation, big booty, urban clothing, the works.  Dancers have it all, but do they play?  Do they sing?  What do they really contribute to the band, other than providing the male crowd with unfathomable sexual desires?  Here’s my point of view:  Lets say you are the leader of the band, you write a good portion of the music,  help with arrangements, design melodies, you sing on stage, you play your instrument.  After a gig, business is done, and you get the money.  Pay your band, the ones who provide the overall sound for the band; they are playing music, (that is, of course, if they KNOW how to play) which is what people go see.  Why would you pay your bass-player the same as someone who shakes their bom-bom?  As far as contributions, your bass player does a hell of a lot more in providing the band with much-needed flavour.  A dancer dances.  Thats it.  Joy.

A considerable waste of space and money, a band should definitely remove the clutter and put more focus on the band.  Giving sexual appeal to your band doesn’t make you a great musician, but only shows that you are drawing attention away from your band.  What other reason is there for that, other than insecurity?

  1. True. Male Dancers suck. And if you are going to use female dancers… make damn sure they are FINE female dancers… no love handles…. no C-Section scars and shit. I think alot of times this happens when bands would like to put on a show… but are afraid to actually move their lazy asses… so they let other people move their asses for them… and it doesn’t work.

  2. You hit he nail on the head when you said “insecurity”.
Bands and artists who do this are insecure and want to provide additional entertainment because they feel they can’t provide a complete show alone.
Take the likes of Ricky Martin for example; their quality of singing isn’t all that great so they need to supplement with additional entertainment by having their show choreographed.

I think that even applies to our style of music, I would rather see someone providing exceptional musical talent than having the bajosexto player sticking his tongue out during a solo or doing the twist.

On the other side of the coin…isn’t this an entertainment business?

  3. I believe that if you have talent than you dont need dancers..but what bout the younger bands? Yeah, i go to watch the band but the majority of us women like to get the pleasure of watching male dancers shake what they got. Just like some men go to strip clubs to what? Pay to watch women dance….We can get both. Music and a dance. I guess it works both ways. I dont think dancers should get paid equally, but get paid 1/3 for their hard work entertaining.

  4. i think dancers should burn in hell…………………………………………………………………..hope i dont get booted

  5. dude, wtf. we don’t really ban around here unless you are truly fucking annoying as hell. you’re only expressing what you feel, i’m not going to crucify you for that.

  6. i was kiddin, dude.lol.

  7. male dancers on stage dont do anything for me as a female, half the time im not sure what kinda music they are dancin to in their heads because it aint following the rhythm of what im listenin too…anyways yeah all i wanna see is the band their talent…not all this flashy fake stuff and being scared the stage is gonna collapse from all the dancing and stuff… i like a good show no doubt but make the band members part of that show….anyways maybe the should watch Pure Country w/ George Strait and realize the best perfomance he does is when he gets rid of all the noise, lights, and flashy stuff….peace out!
