Current Fads: Saying Goodbye / Better Off Without You

Dude WTF. Tejano better not do this.

It seems as if there is a new fad in town.  When you listen to the radio, try to count how many songs you hear in a day with the following lyrical themes:  saying goodbye, life being better without her/him, happy you’re gone.  There are quite a few.  Michael Salgado’s upcoming single “Es Mejor Decir Adios” and Siggno’s “El Perro Muy Feliz” are just a couple of them.  How long will this fad last?  It just seems so funny that everyone broke up with their girlfriends at the same time.  Let’s not fuse Tejano music with Emo.

Wait, I know what the next fad is:  “OMG SHE’S PREGNANT.” LOL.

Fads are things that influence the industry as a whole.  One band does it, then another tries it.  This happens both on the mainstream level and the local level.  One of the most notable fads was the pachuco / conjunto movement, fired up by Los Garcia Bros.  Since they went mainstream (and hit real big), many many many local bands now take on that look and sound.  Yes, they take that bad boy sound too.
