Lets face it: the Bloodline SUCKED big time in 2008. Nothing has been updated in very long time. 2009, hopefully, will be our time to shine. We are looking at upgrading our budget to include purchasing of new equipment and the ability to attend multiple events and provide our users with quality information and content. And MAYBE we can get someone else to help contribute to this damned site! I almost let this site shut down, but Shevi and I brainstormed to see what we can do to revive the site. 2009 is either our time to shine or time to die. So long 2008, we hardly knew you.
La Conquista: 10 Year Anniversary Party

Oh goody. After 10 years (10 years?) of hard work, ambition, and girl power, 99% girl band La Conquista is having a celebration at a local Corpus Christi hangout.
Performers scheduled are Miss Paula de Anda, Grupo Patron, DJ Kane, and DJ Dus. This is supposed to be a huge party, complete with an LC look-alike contest, and all ages are welcome.
TTMA General Ballot Available
That time of year is almost here (corny rhyming unintentional). The TTMA Fan Fair is coming up as well as the *cough* TTMA Tejano Music Awards. It wasn’t too long ago that a special password protected ballot was available to industry leaders for preliminary voting.
Now the general ballot is available. The public can view the ballot to see what bands / entertainers have made it this far. We couldn’t help but wonder what was up with some of those entries though.
On a side note, it might appear like you can vote, however your vote will be checked with a database of registered voters’ email addresses. So if you’re not a registered voter, they’ll know and your vote won’t count.
DIY: Tejanos in Wikipedia!

When you take a look at Wikipedia, you can find all sorts of great stuff. Many educational authorities have an incredulous attitude when you mention that word to them.
You can look up nearly anything from the Chupacabra to Cantinflas (don’t ask why I chose those two). While searching, however, I was unable to find legendary musicians in our industry that deserve credit. Try searching for Tony de la Rosa and you’ll end up with nothing.
What is my point? If you have credible information or work with a musician or band who you believe deserves credit, why not post about them on Wikipedia. There are many people that would dig this kind of info. I think it would make for a great weekend project.
I know what you’re saying: “Well why don’t you do it.”
Video of the Week: Milo Rivas Drumcheck
Hahahahahahaha. I’m being completely lazy, so here’s a stupid video I shot of Milo Rivas checking the drums during our soundcheck. I hate mariachi music.
Charro Days is Coming! Call in Sick!

Quick! Call in sick! Take your kids out early! Divorce your spouse! Show us your boobs! Brownsville’s Charro Days Fiesta is coming up. This festival is equivalent to Buc Days in Corpus Christi, but better; I guess its not equivalent.
Festivities include a carnival, taco eating contest (flour tortillas), parade, folklorico dances, and some other dances.
One dance, on February 29th, will feature the Tejano Boys and Los Dos Gilbertos. The other dance, on March 1st, will feature Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz and Los Badd Boyz del Valle.
To the Committe: Excellent job in booking the bands.
For more information, visit the Charro Days Homepage.
New AZT Album Due Soon, No Funky Mama
Word has it that Albert Zamora y Talento is almost done with latest album (Freddie Records). As far as we know, there is no remake of Funky Mama (awww man!). We don’t even know if its a brand new album or a compilation of some sort.
Perhaps we can expect an official release in the next few months. Stay tuned for more information!
Tejanos Buy Stove, HLSR Water Boiling

It was only last week that we reported the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo baffling decision to hire Los Horoscopos de Durango for their Go Tejano Day. It should be noted that there is no problem with Duelo performing. They fall under the Tejano umbrella (by Tejano, we mean the Onda as a whole; Tejano, Conjunto, Norteño, and their sub-genres).
A few days ago, we received an email from the North Texas Tejano Music Coalition detailing what is going down in H-Town.
Apparently, State Senator Michael Gallegos has been receiving a horde of negative input in regards to the HLSR entertainment lineup. “He stated that Tejano fans should continue to email, make phone calls and communicate with their local politicians, Houston Rodeo Officials, the media, Harris County Commissioners, and sponsors of the Houston Rodeo to voice their concerns,” says Senator Gallegos.
This is turning out to be a huge deal, and the Tejanos have spoken. Â Just so that we’re clear, I will mention this again:Â Duelo’s performance is okay, because they are a part of the Tejano scene.
Video of the Week - Conjunto J Does “Volver Volver”
OMFG. Here’s an awesome video of Conjunto J singing the classic “Volver Volver.” These guys, if you don’t know by now, are from Japan (日本), spreading conjunto love throughout.
Elida Reyna’s Single “Te Espero”

OMG! Mainstream Tejano is starting to get better! It starts with Elida’s new single “Te Espero.”
We told you:Â 2008 is going to be great!
The song is very lively and breaks away from the worn out urban cumbia sound. Perhaps this is a new trend: creating lively music, musica alegre. I’m really not a big fan of Elida’s previous works (ok maybe a few), but this one is real catchy. It seems as though Elida’s popularity has increased tremendously since the collaboration with Jesse Turner, Los Palominos, and Tex-Mex Records. This new single is sure to draw more fans.
Her new album, entitled “Domingo,” will be out February 12, 2008 under Freddie Records.
You can hear the new song by visiting Elida’s MySpace page or by using the “New Singles” player on the right side of tBL.
