Jimmy Lee Gonna Be On Yo TV

jlyt.jpg
Not Jimmy Lee Garcia. *insert cricket sound here* Enough with the bad jokes already.

Jimmy Lee y Tentazion will soon be shooting a video for one of their singles.  We’re hoping the video will use “Si No Ay Pleito No Ay Amor” or “Los Melones.”  The only thing we know for sure is that the video will be shot at the Texas Grand in Beeville real soon.

We wish the best of luck to JLyT in the making of their video.  As many of you know, most Tejano videos suck and you can tell they were made on a strict/low budget.  Keep this in mind:  Just cause you have a budget doesn’t mean your video has to look that way.

We will post more details as they become available.

Univision Closing its doors?

uniskull.png

When we say Univision, we mean the record label part of the Mexican media conglomerate.

We were (and still are) very skeptical when we heard about this one. Everyone (really?) is talking about how Univision will soon be closing its doors. Keep in mind, there aren’t many major Tejano/Regional Mexican labels around.

There seems to be some kind of domino effect in play, however. Apparently, there are some other “key” Tejano/Regional Mexican labels that will be shutting down as well. But who?

We have to ask, with many big bands like Intocable and Duelo (not to mention the many international heavy hitters on their list), why would they shut down? Only time will tell.

Do keep in mind that this is an unconfirmed rumor for now.

Nando Leaves LSR

According to a legit Univision interview, Nando has left Los Super Reyes.  Nando states in the interview that there are some differences between himself and Cruz Martinez, the owner of the band.

We’re not taking sides or anything, but Nando says in the interview that Cruz wants to do things the way he wants to.  In reality (and with all due respect) the band owner can do as he pleases with the group.  As a band member, you have to “follow da leada leada leada follow da leada leada leada.” Leaving the band was a great decision for this reason:  if you’re not happy and you don’t voice it, it will have a domino effect on the rest of the band.  Everybody wins.

Nando does not want a relationship with Cruz or the band the way A.B. has had with them.  We wish Nando the best of luck with the future of his career.

Raulito Talks About the Accident

KSAB 99.9 FM of Corpus Christi had a two hour Emilio Navaira tribute (5pm to 7pm CST). During the tribute, various artists called in to talk about Emilio and how great of a person he was is (and will be).

Here is a 30 minute clip of the tribute, including an exclusive call-in interview by Raulito (Emilio’s brother).

Cacy S Leaves Jimmy G? - Part 2

We continue our post from a few weeks ago

It is official:  Cacy Savala has indeed left Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz.  Although we won’t post any details as to why she left (kind of personal), at least we can say that rumor has become confirmed truth yet again.

We hope that Cacy will come back soon, perhaps in a solo act even.  I would personally hate the absence of her voice on the radio.

Good luck Cacy!  We love you!

Breaking News: Emilio Navaira in Critical Condition

bn.png

We have just learned that Emilio Navaira is in critical condition after the singer, along with his band, suffered a near-fatal accident in their bus.

Navaira was driving the bus when it crashed into a spot of freeway barrels (you know, those things that look like trash cans) around 5:00 am. The band was on their way to San Antonio back from a gig in Houston. All of the band members are in the hospital at this time, but it has been reported that Emilio had the worst injuries and would require surgery.

Cacy S Leaves Jimmy G? - Part I

A couple of spotty comments left around the interwebz suggest that Cacy Savala, female vocalist for Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, has left the group. There have also been a few reports of her stage absence from the TTMA awards.

Although not much more is known with this situation, we don’t suspect foul play between Jimmy, the band, or Cacy. Then again, anything is possible. Stay tuned for part two.

Video of the Week: Ricky Speaks!

Here’s a vid of Ricky Muñoz talking about Daniel Sanchez.

What is Tejano Music to You?

On the way to my day job this morning (yes, we do have regular jobs), I switched from CD to radio mode. Needless to say, I was enraged at the discussion that was taking place.

So, a couple of DJs were talking about the whole Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo mess. You know, the one where Go Tejano Day features Duelo and Los Horoscopos de Durango (which are actually from Chicago? LOL). Before I go on, let me give you a little bit of history: Because Go Tejano Day is featuring these bands this year, many people are very upset. They say that Duelo and Horoscopos are not Tejano. However, the HLSR big wigs say Go Tejano Day never meant Tejano Music. A boycott for the event is currently being organised.

The DJs were genuinely asking, “So what is Tejano music?” One says “You know, music with horns and keyboards, like Little Joe y La Familia, Emilio Navaira, David Lee Garza, [etc.].” The other says “Well I thought Tejano music was like, Intocable, Costumbre, Siggno, and then the other ones you mentioned.” It was also mentioned that a Tejano star said Duelo should not play because they are not Tejano, and Horoscopos even more because they are Duranguense.

Video of the Week: The Original Mascara!

OMFG! Here’s a video of Rigo Tovar doing “Quitate la Mascara,” a song that Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz recently redid. This song is hitting strong right now, but how many people know this version?

Diva de Kumbia Disappearing Trick Part I

sonia-bass-pic.JPG

She’s from the heart of Texas and an uprising female vocalist: Sonia Bass (a.k.a. Diva de Kumbia) . Such a beautiful and stylish young star who brought the audience to their feet with her unique beats and rhythms including cumbia, mariachi, hip-hop, vallenato, ranchera, and salsa; she sang it all. Her latest CD, entitled “Dimelo Mi Amor,” was supposed to be hit the store shelves. Did it ever make it ? I sure don’t know. Which brings me to ask: where is she?
