We’ve just received word that the 10th Annual South Texas Conjunto Association Awards will be held this Sunday, July 13th at the Pharr Convention Center in Pharr, TX (duh).

From what we gathered, there will be 13 of South Texas’ finest conjuntos showcasing their stuff throughout the evening. Various awards are expected to be given to the bands in different categories. The association is working on getting the ballots out and the nominations in.

Since conjuntos and their musicians are rarely recognized through the Tejano Music Awards in San Antonio, the association was founded to complete this forsaken task. The award given to the bands and musicians is formally known as the Narciso Martinez award.

This year’s Conjunto of the Year nominees are:

• Ricardo Guzman y Sus Nuevos 3 Aces (Edinburg)
• Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers (Alice)
• Los D Boyz (Kingsville)
• Jimmy Lee y Tentazion (Beeville)
• Los Cuatro Aces
